The General Counsel Roundtable is an invitation only event for general counsel all across Europe, hosted by the European Company Lawyers Association (ECLA). The event will bring together a limited number of general counsel and decision makers from legal departments to discuss in depth about how legal heads can manage the intricate relationship they have with their company boards.

The event is planned as a half-day exclusive meeting with a pre-evening reception that includes open dialogue during a fireside chat on the eve of the roundtable. General counsel are invited to the event and do only have to organise and pay for their travel arrangements.

Guy Pendell
Partner, Head of Disputes

Guy Pendell is a versatile commercial disputes partner based in London. He has been a partner since 2005 and has over 20 years’ experience handling corporate/commercial disputes. His experience spans commercial arbitration where, as a solicitor advocate, he often undertakes all the advocacy, and litigation. His main areas of work include corporate/M&A disputes, technology, media and telecoms, international projects, aviation and finance disputes. He also has years of experience handling disputes in the hotels and consumer products sectors.

Over the years, Guy has been involved in hundreds of arbitrations under the rules of most of the leading institutions across many jurisdictions and governing laws. His experience is predominantly in international commercial arbitration, including emergency arbitration proceedings, as well as investment arbitration. When his workload permits, he also sits as an arbitrator.

Guy is one of a few London practitioners with leading rankings in both arbitration and litigation in the major legal directories. He has been credited as “giving clients the best chance of winning”. He is also ranked as a Thought Leader and recommended Global Leader in Who’s Who Legal.

Kenny Henderson

Kenny Henderson is an experienced litigator who represents sophisticated and blue chip clients in high stakes disputes, frequently with a multi-jurisdictional element. He is solutions-oriented, and deploys litigation strategies tailored to deliver commercial objectives. He has particular expertise in regulated sectors, including pharmaceutical and technology claims.

Kenny has acted on many of the highest profile follow-on claims issued in Europe to date. Unusually, he has led matters both on the claimant and the defendant side. He is also active in the developing area of class and group actions, counselling clients both in defending claims and also on strategies for reducing overall exposure in opt-out and opt-in collective proceedings.

Laura Houët

Laura Houët is a partner in CMS’ Financial Services and Products team and CMS’ Co-Head of ESG. Laura has over 14 years’ experience advising the asset management industry. She is a regulated funds specialist with particular expertise on the product side across all types of asset class.

Laura is a sustainability expert advising a wide range of international fund houses on sustainable investment strategies, on the implementation of sustainability related regulation and reporting, including SFDR, TCFD and the EU Taxonomy, and on strategic governance and internal preparation for climate transition. Her practice in this area spans the UK, Europe, North America and Asia.

Laura also sits on the CMS sustainability board committee and the FMLC ESG scoping forum. She is a frequently invited speaker on sustainable investment issues.

Leonard Böhmer

Leonard Böhmer specialises in insurance law, transport law and risk management. In particular, he advises national and international companies in insurance and other industries on risk management issues.​

Leonard is head of the Litigation & Insurance Practice Group. He is a member of the advisory committee on civil procedures of the Netherlands Bar Association. He contributed to the Dutch chapter of Lord Justice Jackson’s preliminary report on costs.​

Leonard is a lecturer for a number of postgraduate courses, and a regular speaker at seminars and conferences in the Netherlands and abroad. He is a former Dean of the Bar Association in the District of Utrecht and has been a member of the board of the Netherlands Bar Association.

Alasdair Steele

Alasdair is a Partner in our Corporate Team at CMS London and Head of Equity Capital Markets. He specialises in UK and cross-border corporate finance, including public and private M&A, strategic investments and primary and secondary equity issues, as well as regularly advising on infrastructure consortia and corporate joint venture arrangements. He regularly advises quoted companies and financial intermediaries on the UKLA Listing Rules and Disclosure Rules, the Prospectus Rules, the AIM Rules, the Takeover Code and general company law. Alasdair has a particular focus on the Infrastructure and Technology sectors and regularly visits clients, investors and advisers in China and India.

Dr. Heike Wagner

Heike Wagner advises national and international strategic investors and private equity funds on all aspects of corporate law. She specialises in international and domestic M&A and corporate restructurings. She is experienced in a broad range of national and cross-border transactions, both sell- and buy-side as well as the assistance of clients in their ongoing activities in Europe. Heike has a particular expertise in the technology, consumer goods and life sciences sector.

Heike has been a partner of the Corporate/M&A team at CMS Germany since 1998 and was appointed as chair of the CMS council in 2020. Heike spent one year with an investment bank and a law firm in New York.
